India : A Rising Nation

“India comes first and everything rest” this statement can justify what is the definition of nationalism for an Indian should be. India is a land of diversities, multiple languages, cultures and religions. Hence, maintaining nationalism here is much more difficult than any western country.  We are Indians First, then only we have another identity-this feeling should be infused in the mind of every Indian. In this article, we will discuss two factors that can lead to enhance nationalism among Indians.

RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE

India is the home to four major religions of the world.  Number of Muslims living in India is more than that of Pakistan.  According to preamble of Indian constitution India is a secular country where all its citizens have equal rights irrespective of their religion. Religious tolerance in India is exemplary. India gave political asylum to Tibetan supreme religious leader Dalai Lama. People in India celebrate Id and Diwali with same pomp and ceremony together. The best example of India’s religious tolerance can be explained in the simplest manner if we look at the oath taking ceremony of Mr. Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India. He took oath from Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, a noted scientist and the erstwhile president of India. During that time, Leader of the Congress (I) which formed the government was Sonia Gandhi, a Catholic Christian and leader of the opposition was Atal Bihari Vajpayee, A Hindu Brahmin.  Can you expect such a combination in anywhere except India???  That is the reason why we Indians call nationalism is our religion.
Infusing nationalism among common Indians
It can be done through the aspects over which a significant number of Indians have interest. One among them is cricket. Cricket is perhaps the best binding force for Indian nationalism in the current scenario. Next important thing is inclusive economic growth.  There is a stark difference between Shining India and Poor Bharat. To enhance the spirit nationalism, we need to remove the economic barriers and make our growth more inclusive.  Third important factor that can infuse nationalism is the Mumbai and other regional film industry. Most of the Indians are crazy about films. Special efforts in the direction of making more and more patriotic movies can help in inculcating the spirit of nationalism among common Indians.

In some cases greatness is achieved and in few, it is a virtue. As far as India is considered, greatness is a virtue. Greatness is an inherent aspect of India’s culture, tradition, contribution to global community and initiatives in the direction of global peace and co-existence. The next part we will discuss is greatness of India in three aspects.

CONTRIBUTION TO SCIENCE

Though there is a widespread notion among the western world regarding prevalence of black magic and superstition among Indians, science has its root and origin India. India taught the world how to count. Modern algebra, calculus and trigonometry have their origin India.  As far as astronomy and astrophysics are concerned, India’s contribution is incredible. Ayurveda, the first branch of medical science originated here. First surgery of the world was done in India. Rocket science was first developed and utilized here.  And now, 12% of the scientists of USA and 36% of the employees working at NASA are Indians.  Harappa is the first planned city of the world. It means, India taught the art of architecture to the world.

CONRIBUTION TO LITERATURE

Ramayana and Mahabharata are the first epics of the world. Even some critics are of the view that nothing original have been ever written after these two epics. All most all European languages have their origin from Sanskrit. The English language is enriched in many ways after Britons came in contact with India and Indian culture.   Rabindranath Tagore is the first Asian to achieve the prestigious Noble Award for literature.

CONTRIBUTION TO DEMOCRACY

India taught the world how a democracy can sustain even amidst a vast diversity.  India, after freedom, became the first country to give equal voting rights to all its citizens from day one.  Even though surrounded by neighbours with autocratic and unstable democratic governments, India never witnessed any military revolt or civil war against its democratic system. Indian parliamentary system’s flexibility, superiority and survival are an example for the entire world.

So friends, since India became independent these were the main aspects India been developed from last 67 years. So we must say that India is a developing country. And the most important is the history of the nation, we Indians must salute our great leaders and freedom fighters, no words to express such legends, definitely they will be always in our hearts.
